At UM, she gained pathology experience in marine mammals and sea turtles.
At UGA, Dr. Miller serves as the mentor to senior veterinary students choosing an externship in gross and microscopic pathology with a wildlife emphasis. She also serves as one of four mentors for the UGA VDIL pathology residency program. Dr. Miller also offers a special topics course in Pathology that is designed for non-DVM graduate students. She participates in the Georgia GIFT program, which offers research-based internships to high school teachers for the advancement of science-based learning in the classroom. At UTK, Dr. Miller contributes to courses in the wildlife health curriculum and guest lectures on pathology as requested.
Dr. Miller is a certified wildlife biologist. Her professional memberships include the American Association of Wildlife Veterinarians, the Wildlife Disease Association, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, The Wildlife Society, American Association of Zoo Veterinarians. Her primary areas of research are marine mammals (reproduction and pathology) and amphibian diseases as they relate to anthropogenic influences. Dr. Miller works with researchers at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks on various species including Bowhead whales, Arctic fox, Polar bears and Muskoxen. She collaborates with Dr. Jeanette Wyneken at Florida Atlantic University, who is studying Leatherback sea turtles. At UGA Dr. Miller collaborates on Fallow deer, Wild turkey, Coyote, and Tilapia studies. Thus far at UTK, Dr. Miller has been involved with the Amphibian Disease Program.
