Master’s student and member of the Amphibian Disease Laboratory Adri Tompros has published a paper in Transboundary and Emerging Diseases.
Tompros and her colleagues are conducting research on Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans, or Bsal, a fungal pathogen that is causing widespread die offs and near-extirpations in European salamanders. Though the pathogen has not reached the US, scientists like Tompros are working on mitigation strategies for if, or when, Bsal reaches our country.
The paper, Frequency-dependent transmission of Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans in eastern newts, addresses transmission of the pathogen and how the Amphibian Disease Lab uses mathematical models to predict how Bsal would spread among eastern newts.
